Website on the old Indian classical musical genre called Dhrupad which originated in the ancient chantings of sacred texts called the vedas and later evolved into a classical performing art under the patronage of imperial courts. For the last few centuries Dhrupad was performed in the courts of Mughal and Rajput kings in Northern India. The site includes biographies of famous Dhrupad singers of the last two centuries belonging to the Dagar family which has practiced this music as a family tradition and have been royal musicians in the courts of many kings. Site has separate pages for Dhrupad maestros of the Dagar tradition like Zakiruddin Khan Dagar, Allabande Khan Dagar, Ziauddin Khan Dagar, Nasiruddin Khan Dagar, Rahimuddin Khan Dagar, Tansen Pandey and their descendants the famous Dagar Brotherswho kept this art alive against great odds in the period after 1947 when the royal courts in India ceased to exist and the music lost its source of patronage. The site also features Dhrupad singer Ashish Sankrityayan a disciple of the Dagar family who regularly gives concerts and workshops in Europe.
